September2018 Monthly Madness Prize –PADI Advanced Course
Finished your Open Water Course and discover that the little diving bug in side you have grown and you now looking for you next underwater adventure. Then the PADI Advanced Open water course (AOW) is the next step. The Advanced course focuses on the practical elements of Diving from Fish Identification to Navigation, the advanced course has something for everyone.
On our most recent AOW course we took our students to complete their course at the Poor Knights Marine Reserve. Day 1 saw us complete the Underwater Naturalist dive where we saw plenty including kingfish, schools of blue mao mao and even a couple of Moray Eels. We then changed locations and completed our Peak performance Buoyancy dive and boat dive on one of the brilliant wall sites. There is nothing like completing your Peak Performance Buoyancy dive while diving along a wall with heaps of colour from the impressive Sponge life.
Day 2 started the same as day one, but the excitement level was incredibly high as we set off to complete everyone’s first Deep Dive we descended the boats mooring line and headed deeper down the reef until we found the sandy bottom at 29m. We compared colours of some of Hannah’s bath toys and compared our different depth gauges. We then proceeded to slowly explore the reef and ended the dive doing our safety stop surrounded by a massive school of fish. The last dive saw us complete the Navigation advanced dive, which saw me sending the students to swim the biggest square I have ever assigned as the visibility was so amazing that I didn’t want to see the starting point. We were joined by a couple of sting rays to top off an amazing AOW course.
As an Instructor, the Advanced courses are some of my favourite to teach because everyone who joins them is there for the same reason and the groups always bond well.
